INSIDE Secure powers Nokia phone's NFC capabilitites

Semiconductor company INSIDE Secure announced its technology is behind the NFC capabilities available in the new Nokia Lumia 610 NFC phone released last week. The Lumia 610 NFC is the first NFC-enabled phone running Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system. It will initially be available to U.K. subscribers of wireless carrier Orange.

"We are very excited to be providing the NFC core technology for the Lumia 610 NFC, and to be working with Nokia on the development of this NFC smartphone," said Charles Walton, GM of  NFC and secure payments for INSIDE Secure.

The Lumia 610 is certified for contactless payments by both MasterCard and Visa for their NFC point-of-sale solutions. In a Nokia blog post about the release of the phone, James Anderson, group head and SVP of mobile product development for MasterCard said his company has been working with Nokia since 2005 on NFC technologies.

"Over the years we’ve worked with Nokia on a number of pilots, and now we’re pleased to see this progress on a commercial scale," Anderson said.
