India's Vijaya Bank launches QR code payments
First Global Data has announced that the Vpayqwik service launched in partnership with Vijaya Bank is now accepted nationally across India at all retail locations.
According to a press release, Vpayqwik is one of a select few mobile wallets in India that currently has access to a government platform, which is the Bharat QR code national payment strategy. The strategy is part of the Indian government's ongoing objective of moving toward a "less-cash" economy.
"This is a transformational milestone and is an indicator of the global movement toward mobile payments," Andre Itwaru, First Global chairman and CEO, said in a statement. "Our Vpayqwik mobile payment service will now enjoy full retail geographical coverage in India."
