India's Ezetap raises funds from American Express
Ezetap, an India-based mobile point-of-sale provider, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from American Express to expand its services across Asia and Africa, according to multiple reports.
Ezetap said in a statement the Amex investment is minor and did not disclose additional details.
"This investment will allow us to turn on additional value-added services such as loyalty and rewards that will delight users and change the entire payment experience for end consumers," Ezetap co-founder and CEO Abhijit Bose said in a statement.
The company's product is similar to Square and iZettle. Consumers who wish to accept card payments plug the device into a mobile phone's headphone jack. The reader works with a mobile app.
Ezetap, which was founded in 2011, has raised some $12 million in funding to date, according to previous reports. Last month, it raised $8 million in a Series B funding round led by Helion Venture Partners.
