Indian Railway offers mobile ticketing service
The Hindustan Times reports the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has launched a new mobile service aimed at making travel easier for Indian Railway passengers.
After downloading the free software to their phones, and registering with the service, travelers can book and pay for tickets using only their mobile devices. (According to the Mobile Indian, a mobile app for the service will be realeased soon.)
Additionally, the Times reports the new service is similar to e-ticketing and allows passengers to dispense with printed tickets and use a reservation message sent to their mobile devices at the time of booking in place of a physical ticket.
The IRCTC is a subsidiary of the Indian Railway and is tasked with the online ticketing for the railway. The Indian Railway is one of the busiest train systems in the world carrying 30 million passengers a day.
