GSMA to highlight NFC at annual conference

GSMA, the association for the international wireless industry, has announced the addition of the NFC Experience to Mobile World Congress, the organization's annual conference in Barcelona. The MWC will take place Feb. 25–28. The NFC Experience is a special section of the conference dedicated to NFC technology and use cases that demonstate its capabilities, including ticketing, file sharing and payments.

"We're excited to launch the NFC Experience for Mobile World Congress, as it provides attendees to the event the opportunity to experience firsthand the power of NFC technology both throughout the Mobile World Congress venue, as well as in the city of Barcelona," said Michael O'Hara, chief marketing officer, GSMA. "We hope that all attendees will take advantage of the many benefits of NFC, from venue access to retail transactions to transport, among others."

The NFC Experience will allow attendees with NFC-enabled handsets to take advantage of NFC technology at locations throughout the conference venue as well as in the city of Barcelona, GSMA said. NFC touch points will provide instant access to information such as downloads of conference sessions and keynotes, information about restaurants and tourist attractions, and access to conference events with a "virtual badge."
