Google prepaid card, tied to Google Wallet funds, goes live

Google's rumored prepaid debit card has surfaced. As Droid Life reported, the Google Wallet Card allows users to access their Google Wallet balance in the real world at ATMs, banks and wherever MasterCard debit is accepted. The service is live, and Google is accepting orders, which it said take 10 to 12 days to fill.

The card lets users pay with funds from their digital wallet, which will need to be loaded with cash. The card works along the lines of American Express’ Serve.

If you select "debit" at the point of sale, Google explains, you’ll need to enter your Google Wallet PIN when prompted for your card PIN. If a zip code is required, the user includes the one associated with his or her wallet’s home address.

The amount in the wallet is how much a user can spend, up to $5,000 per 24 hours. That limit doesn’t apply to cash withdrawals at ATMs or banks.
