GlobalPlatform publishes contactless payments framework
GlobalPlatform has published a framework for end-to-end secure mobile services, focusing initially on contactless payments.
GlobalPlatform is a cross-industry, not-for-profit association that develops and publishes specifications for secure chip technology. Members include card schemes as well as telecoms and technology companies.
The first release of the "End-to-End Simplified Service Management Framework v1.0" has been published to bring clarity to the deployment of secure mobile services, GlobalPlatform said in a news release. The document is intended for service providers, mobile network operators, secure element vendors, data preparation bureaus, trusted service managers and mobile device manufacturers involved with contactless payments.
The framework is available free for GlobalPlatform members and can be downloaded from the GlobalPlatform store by non-members.
"We recognized that it's important to make technical information accessible and to offer guidance to promote consistency and ensure an interoperable payment framework," James Anderson, MasterCard's Group Head of Emerging Payments, said in a statement issued by GlobalPlatform. MasterCard worked alongside Visa, Discover and American Express within GlobalPlatfom to create the framework.
"GlobalPlatform specifications already address what is required on the secure element, trusted execution environment and mobile messaging to deploy secure mobile services," Gil Bernabeu, Technical Director at GlobalPlatform, said. "Creating an end-to-end framework which defines how each element of a mobile payments deployment connects with each other and to the back-end office is the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle."
