Glint Pay launches gold currency mobile app, debit Mastercard in US

U.K. fintech Glint Pay officially launched in the United States today, offering customers the ability to purchase, sell, save and spend gold currency through a mobile app and Glint Debit Mastercard.

The company, which was founded in 2015 and launched a mobile app in February 2018,  said the U.S. launch is part of a wider international expansion planned for 2019. The company is expanding to multiple international markets this year, including Canada, Scandinavia and Japan.

Glint has named Boulder, Colorado, as its U.S. headquarters, and has a team of six people running operations, marketing, sales, customer service and compliance. The company has so far reported 50,000 downloads, $50 million in volume and tens of thousands of registered users.

"Our mission is to bring a reliable gold currency to the fingertips of everyone in the world," Jason Cozens, founder and CEO of Glint, said in a company release. "We are excited to introduce Glint to the U.S. market and continue our steady growth towards democratizing gold."

The company operates as a card program manager as an agent of Sutton Bank, and is regulated by the FDIC.
