Gemalto brings NFC solution to Norway

The digital security firm Gemalto will provide mobile contactless technology to TSM Nordic, a company owned by Norwegian telco Telenor and financial services provider DNB, for what's billed as Norway's first mobile NFC payment service.

Gemalto's solution includes the multicustomer, shared Allynis TSM Hub as well as comprehensive integration and deployment support, according to an announcement.

The mobile contactless payments will include additional services such as coupons, loyalty programs and ticketing. Gemalto's Allynis TSM solution is hosted and operated in Gemalto's secure data centers, certified by MasterCard and Visa.

The integrated TSM Hub platform is at the heart of the new service, Gemalto said, acting as a single connection point from which mobile operators, banks, public transport authorities and other service providers can plug in to provide and manage mobile contactless services across an interoperable ecosystem. That system is expected to extend across the Nordic region in the longer term.

"Gemalto is an open, competent and reliable partner," Bjørn Skjelbred, project manager at TSM, said in a news release. "We are very satisfied with the management of this complex project, which involves several stakeholders. Interoperability between the parties is a key element."

Jean-Claude Deturche, SVP of mobile financial service, Gemalto, said Norway is leading the way in Europe on digital payments, with cash accounting for 6 percent of all transactions. "The new multitenant service is a significant leap forward," he said, "one that can offer a growing range of easily deployed mobile contactless services and will welcome aboard new stakeholders in Norway and beyond."
