Fortumo releases new cross-platform mobile billing

In-app billing and mobile payment platform provider Fortumo announced a new cross-platform billing service for HTML-5 supported applications. The new platform is important to digital content providers and developers because it gives them the ability monetize their mobile content regardless of operating system.

According to a post on Fortumo's blog written by company co-founder Martin Koppel, the new platform is meant to support developers who are looking across all the available mobile operating systems to provide their content to as many consumers as possible.

"More and more developers are taking cross-platform strategy in order to optimize development cost, minimize time to market and reduce platform risk," Koppel said.

Koppel explained that Fortumo has worked with some of its top merchants to create "a seamless payment solution" that uses data stored on a mobile device to make mobile web purchases faster and more convenient. The company's Pay by Mobile product now lets consumers of digital content pay on their mobile devices by putting the purchase on their monthly mobile phone bills with just a few clicks.

In addition to making payments easier for consumers, developers have a single point of integration to provide in-app billing across mobile browsers on most popular mobile operating systems such as iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry and Symbian.

Fortumo is used by many large digital content providers to enable in-app billing. For instance, Rovio, the company behind the popular Angry Birds game, uses Fortumo to enable in-app billing for Android devices.
