Fortumo offers Cubie users a direct carrier billing option

Direct carrier billing will be making it easier for "Cubiers" to make purchases while chatting on their mobile devices. Cubiers are users of the Cubie chat app, and thanks to Cubie's integration of Fortumo's direct carrier billing platform, they can now make purchases through their mobile devices and place the purchase on their monthly phone bills.

Cubie gives users the ability to send and receive videos, pictures and "stickers," background images users can purchase to decorate their applications. Appealing to younger users, Cubie's new direct carrier billing option gives those users, who usually lack access to credit and debit cards, an option for purchasing those stickers.

The new service went live in Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia last week, the company said on its blog, but is available now in 41 additional countries.

Based in Estonia with offices in San Francisco and Beijing, Fortumo provides direct carrier billing services to 74 countries. The company raised $10 million in funding earlier this year.
