Facebook reportedly seeks money license in Ireland

Facebook might be on the verge of a payments play as it is reportedly seeking an e-money license in Ireland that would enable the social site's users to send and receive funds transfers, according to the Financial Times.

If Ireland approves the license, then Facebook could operate the service throughout Europe.

The Financial Times also reported Facebook has discussed partnerships with three London-based startups that offer international remittances online and through smartphones. The publication believes TransferWise, Moni Technologies and Azimo are those companies.

Facebook at the moment has 48 money-service licenses in the United States.
