ExxonMobil Speedpass users can obtain credit line via mobile app

Citi Retail Services and ExxonMobil have announced what they call "new industry-leading functionality" for the ExxonMobil Speedpass mobile payment app. Consumers can now apply for the ExxonMobil Smart Card credit card directly through the app and begin saving on fuel purchases immediately, according to a press release.

This "Apply and Buy" capability is now available to consumers nationwide through ExxonMobil’s Speedpass-plus app, which can be downloaded through the Apple app store or Google Play and used at thousands of Exxon and Mobil stations. The new functionality leverages tools and security features provided by Equifax.

"Citi's Apply and Buy technology is a groundbreaking digital advancement for the fuel industry and will deliver convenient payment options and ongoing savings to drivers nationwide," Craig Vallorano, head of Citi Retail Services, said in a statement. "ExxonMobil is an exceptionally innovative partner and we are excited to expand our relationship to include mobile payments."

Consumers who apply for a new ExxonMobil Smart Card by July 31 are eligible to save 20 cents on every gallon of Synergy fuel purchased for the first two months after their account opening date. Following that, cardholders save 6 cents per gallon of fuel purchased at any Exxon or Mobil location in the U.S., paying either with their Smart Card at the pump or within Speedpass-plus.
