ExxonMobil SpeedpassPlus app updates include connected car, Apple Watch payments

ExxonMobil is rolling out updates to its SpeedpassPlus app that will allow mobile payment from an Apple Watch or a Ford vehicle equipped with SYNC 3. The new features are enabled for Synergy fuel and car wash purchases at approximately 10,000 participating Exxon and Mobil stations across the U.S., according to a press release.

"This is more than a cashless payment app; it is a platform that earns and redeems Plenti loyalty points and manages receipts," Matt Bergeron, vice president of marketing for ExxonMobil fuels, lubricants and specialties marketing, said in a statement. "With ExxonMobil's heritage and commitment to innovation, the SpeedpassPlus app continues to bring new benefits to its users."

Other updates to the SpeedpassPlus app include the option to use a new "Apply and Buy" feature in the app to apply for an ExxonMobil Smart Card, a private-label credit card issued by Citibank. Once an application is approved, the card will be automatically added as a payment option within the app for the consumer. For a limited time, new accounts will receive a savings of 20 cents per gallon for the first two months and six cents per gallon  thereafter, according to the announcement.
