Everything changes for Canada's payment market tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. EDT. That's when Canadian athlete Simon Whitfield is scheduled to make what is billed as "Canada's first mobile payment."

Canadian bank CIBC, in conjunction with mobile carrier Rogers Communications, sent out a media advisory this afternoon announcing an event to be held tomorrow at a Tim Hortons restaurant. There the companies reportedly will unveil their joint mobile payment product, which they announced earlier this year.

"As the leader in delivering mobile financial services innovations in Canada, we are pleased to introduce yet another innovation in the market that will shape the payments experience of the future," said CIBC SVP David Williamson in May. "By teaming with Rogers, CIBC clients will soon enjoy the convenience of paying at the checkout with their mobile device while enjoying the existing benefits of their CIBC credit card, including loyalty rewards."

Details about which handsets will support the mobile payment scheme will also be announced tomorrow, likely devices include the NFC-enabled BlackBerry models Bold 9900 and Curve 9360.
