Elavon promotes mobile innovation with new business unit
Demonstrating the focus that mobile has become in the world of payments, Elavon, the merchant acquiring part of U.S. Bancorp, has opened a mobile innovation center at its Atlanta headquarters. The center, called "The Grove," will come up with merchant-based mobile payment and acceptance solutions.
"Our focus will be on new technologies that enable merchants to accept payments via mobile devices while also ensuring the ease of use and safety of the transaction from the customer’s perspective," said Marianne Johnson, executive vice president of global product and innovation for Elavon. "Payments are moving closer to the concept of the mobile wallet housed on a smart phone or other device."
According to the company's announcement, the new center will also look to leverage Elavon's relationships with third-party technology providers.
Interestingly, The Grove won't be a team within Elavon's product group, but will be managed as a separate business unit. The new mobile innovation center eventually will be staffed by around 50 people; it will up and running sometime within the next 12 to 18 months.
