Dutch mobile payment joint venture splits
Dutch partners in a Netherlands' NFC mobile payments joint venture have decided to go, well, Dutch.
Vodafone, KPN, Rabobank, ABN Amro and ING, the five remaining partners of what was dubbed "The Sixpack" (until T-Mobile dropped out of the consortium late last year), have announced they are dissolving their JV.
Formed in late 2010, the Sixpack was supposed to bring an NFC payment system to the Netherlands, but the three carriers and two banks blamed developments in the market for making it too complex and too slow for the partners to bring their solution to market.
Instead, the partners said they will continue to work on introducing mobile payments, but will follow their own paths and form agreements as they make sense.
