Dubai cabbies will take mobile payments
If you happen to need a taxi in Dubai, you will need cash — but only for the next few months. Come January that will change, as the Dubai government is taking steps to let cab drivers accept payment from smartcards, credit cards and NFC-enabled mobile phones, according to Gulf News.
The news was announced during the Gitex technology fair in Dubai, according to the newspaper. It initially affects Dubai Taxi Corp., which is part of the government's Roads and Transports Authority, with other operators expected to follow suit.
The fare will be deducted from the smartcard's balance or the phone user's account.
