Disney Magicband-style experience coming to Carnival cruises
Princess Cruises, a global cruise line and tour company, announced last week at CES in Las Vegas that it will be the first Carnival Corp. brand to feature the Ocean Medallion, a contactless wearable device that vacationers can use to make payments, unlock rooms and order food and drinks, among other features.
"We are in the business of providing our guests incredible vacation experiences that create memories that they will cherish for a lifetime," Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises, said in a press release. "Ocean Medallion Class will deliver an elevated cruise vacation experience by connecting people, places and cultures from around the world in a more profound way. The service Princess guests have always loved will be amplified by the Ocean Medallion."
The device is similar to Disney's MagicBand, whose creator also developed the Ocean Medallion.
Princess Cruises will make the device available in November aboard the Regal Princess, followed by the Royal Princess and the Caribbean Princess in early 2018. Users can customize the device's features before they board their ship.
