Direct carrier biller boxPAY expands into Asia

Irish carrier biller boxPAY is expanding its footprint. The company provides digital merchants the ability to offer end users a direct carrier billing option when paying for virtual goods, and it's now launching services in several countries in Asia, including in China, Indonesia, Vietnam and India.

Like other direct carrier billiers, boxPAY lets consumers who may not want or have access to debit and credit cards place purchases from online merchants and content publishers on their monthly phone bills. Consumers simply select the payment method, enter their mobile number, and receive an SMS text message to validate the purchase.

Direct carrier billing is a popular payment method worldwide for things like gaming and social media. It's also popular with digital merchants because its higher conversion rates offset the sometimes high fees charged by carriers.

"BoxPAY can help e=commerce companies increase sales significantly with a fast, convenient payment option that they can easily integrate into their existing website or app," said boxPAY's co-founder Iain McConnon. "Mobile payment options through carrier networks are especially important in countries where credit card use is less prevalent, so we’re expanding worldwide to meet the growing demand."

BoxPAY already provides direct carrier billing services in 60 countries worldwide. The company said it looks to be in 75 countries by the end of this year. The next round of countries for boxPAY will be in Latin American.
