Cubic to integrate with Google Pay on contactless fares in San Francisco, Boston

Cubic Transportation Systems, the company behind the OMNY contactless transit fare trial in New York City, has  entered an agreement with Google to integrate contactless fares into Google Pay and expand the service to new public transit systems.

Beginning in 2020, Android smartphone users will be able to use Google Pay to pay for fares in San Francisco as well as Boston and have expanded use in New York, which began testing contactless on a limited number of subway and bus stops at the end of May.

"We are very excited to work with Google to provide travelers with a simple and easy way to pay for transit fares with the devices they already rely on and use every day," Matt Cole, president of Cubic Transportation Systems, said in a press release.

Ambarish Kenghe, director of product management at Google Pay, said the mass transit integration will include support for the Clipper cards in the Bay Area mass transit system.
