CTA passengers can use iPhones and Apple Watch for tap-and-go payments

Chicago Transit Authority passengers can now use their iPhone or Apple Watch to make tap-and-go fare payments via Apple Pay's Express Transit mode by uploading the authority's Ventra transit card to their Apple mobile wallet.

Express Transit enables passengers to pay without needing to unlock or wake their Apple device. They can open the CTA's Ventra app or authenticate their payment with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode, according to a press release.

Passengers will get the same features of a Ventra Card on the iPhone and Apple Watch, including the ability to load and manage transit value for CTA and Pace [bus] passes, get pre-tax transit benefits from employers and account management features in the Ventra app.

Users can purchase and upload a new Ventra card or transfer an existing one to an Apple mobile wallet via the Ventra app.

The CTA recently relaunched its Ventra app with new features such as door-to-door trip planning, access to mobile tickets for Metra commuter rail services and updated transit account management for their Ventra Card.
