U.K.-based mobile tech company Corethree has formed a strategic partnership with Barclays for the inclusion of Barclays Pingit "mobile checkout" in Corethree's mobile wallet for transport ticketing, according to an announcement from Corethree. The company said this is a U.K. first in mobile commerce and will see Corethree become the first business to integrate Barclays Pingit mobile checkout.

Wessex Bus' Uniconnect network in Bath will go live with Corethree's m-ticketing solution today as part of Bath University's "freshers' week," the company said. Over the next 12 months, Corethree and Barclays will roll out their mobile payment services to other transport operators to reach as many as 1 million passenger journeys per day, according to the announcement.

Corethree CEO Ashley Murdoch said in the announcement that "[d]eployments of Corethree's mobile ticketing solutions have grown significantly in 2013, and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Barclays to include their Barclays Pingit 'mobile checkout' payment solution within our award-winning mobile wallet. Passengers will now have even greater choice when seeking to pay for their bus tickets using our ubiquitous m-commerce platform."

The service will be available via iPhone and Android devices on any mobile network, the company said, allowing bus passengers to browse, select, purchase and use bus tickets from their mobile device.

"With increasing numbers of consumers using smartphones while they're on the move, it's never been more important to have a seamless payment process that is completely optimized for the m-commerce environment," Mike Walters, head of U.K. corporate payments at Barclays, said in the announcement. "Barclays Pingit 'mobile checkout' offers this, and by integrating with Corethree's m-ticketing platform, we can ensure that consumers have the ease and convenience they want at their fingertips."
