Cardless ATM solution gets iPhone Passbook feature

Last October, Wincor Nixdorf introduced its PC/E Mobile Cash app, a solution that will allow bank customers to withdraw cash from ATM using a smartphone instead of a bank card. Now Wincor Nixdorf is the first ATM vendor to integrate the service into Apple Passbook on iPhone. For Android users, a comparable function has been integrated directly in the Wincor Nixdorf app.

The Wincor mobile solution lets bank customers set up a withdrawal quickly and conveniently, using their smartphones. The Passbook feature means that the customer can very easily access the code when needed.

"Consumers are increasingly demanding innovative end user concepts — not just in payment processes with mobile wallets. Smartphones will also play a key role in interaction with cash machines in the future," said Stefan Wahle, vice president of software solutions at Wincor Nixdorf.

As far as the bank is concerned, only a few extensions are needed: It may be necessary to add a barcode scanner at the ATM to support the QR code, and client software must be installed on machines to enable the service. (If required, NFC can be supported for Android or whenever Apple decides to add the technology to iPhones). Transaction Safe, a server component, handles communication with the bank's background systems, the solution integrates easily into existing software environments, Wincor said.

The Wincor concept is now available worldwide for piloting by FIs.
