Canadian Amex users can add cards to Android Pay

American Express has announced the availability of Android Pay for its Canadian card holders, according to a press release.

Android Pay is available for eligible Canadian consumer, small business and corporate cards issued by Amex Bank of Canada and is supported on Android devices running on Kitkat 4.4 or higher.

"At American Express, we're committed to offering fast and easy ways for our cardmembers to make purchases," Megan McKee, vice president of consumer cards for American Express Canada, said in the release. "Whether they're shopping in-stores or in-apps, our cardmembers now have the option to use Android Pay while continuing to receive all the benefits and rewards from Amex."

The availability of Android Pay is another step forward in American Express' mobile-first focus, the company said in the release. With recent updates to the Amex mobile app, such as using points for purchases, push notifications and fingerprint authentication, the company is continuing to offer new services and features to make it easier than ever to pay for purchases on the go.

"We're excited to bring the simplicity and security of mobile payments to Android users in Canada," Pali Bhat, vice president of product payments for Google, said in the release. "Starting today, eligible Canadian Amex cardmembers will be able to use Android Pay at hundreds of thousands of contactless payment terminals across Canada."
