CaixaBank will add P2P payments to digital wallet

Spain's CaixaBank will add a person-to-person payments capability to its CaixaWallet digital wallet in 2014. CaixaWallet-holders can link their digital wallet to any payment card or bank account, including virtual prepaid cards issued by CaixaBank.Caixa bank mobile wallet

CaixaBank is owned by the Barcelona-based financial services group la Caixa. The bank said that at the end of 2013, there were 600,000 active CaixaWallets and CaixaBank-issued virtual prepaid cards in issue. The volume of e-commerce purchases made using CaixaWallets and CaixaBank virtual prepaid cards stood at 140 million euros ($191 million) in 2013, according to a news release.

In 2014, CaixaBank will add an NFC mobile payment capability to CaixaWallet, which it originally launched in January 2012.

In December, La Caixa teamed with Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange and Visa Europe to launch what the Spanish bank claims is Europe's largest NFC mobile payments service.
