Brazil gets NFC payments

A blog post on the Nokia corporate site announced the first commercial NFC payment trial in Brazil. The post said the program began a few days ago and lets customers carrying Nokia C7, Nokia N9 and Nokia 701 access an NFC-enabled mobile wallet.

According to the post, the PagSeguro NFC app does P2P payments using NFC data transfers between two enabled phones. Users select whether they're a vendor or buyer on the PIN-protected app. The vendor then requests funds and taps the buyer's phone. The buyer is alerted to the amount requested and accepts the transfer. Money is then taken from a credit card or PayPal account.

At this point, the app only works with phone-to-phone transfers; no POS terminals are supported just yet. The app will be available in May.

A video demonstrating the app is below. (No Portuguese required!)
