Braintree opens an office down under
The fight between payment gateway providers catering to developers is going global. Chicago-based Braintree, which offers developers simple payment integration for their apps, is going down under. According to Business Review Weekly, Braintree will be opening an office in Sydney, Australia, that will cater to developers and startups.
Braintree, which boasts a clientele including some of the hottest startups in the U.S., isn't an unknown in Australia. The compnay has been offering payment services there for some time. But having an office in Australia shows it's getting serious about competing with both local Australian gateway services as well as U.S. providers like PayPal.
According to the report, PayPal has more than 80,000 customers in Australia already.
In the past two years, Braintree has raised nearly $70 million in venture funds.
