BMO Harris Bank launches Mobile Cash cardless ATM network

The service is immediately available at 750 BMO Harris ATMs in the US — making it the nation's largest cardless cash network, the FI says.

BMO Harris Bank has introduced Mobile Cash, a service that allows customers to stage ATM cash withdrawals on a smartphone. With the launch, BMO Harris now operates the largest network of card-less enabled ATMs in the country, a press release said.

"Expectations are increasing among consumers in terms of the digital tools and services industries are offering," said Connie Stefankiewicz, head of North American channel strategy and solutions at BMO Financial Group. "With personal finances, we know our customers want the ability to take care of multiple financial needs from their smartphone."

The QR-based mobile technology improves transaction times at the ATM; customer card information is not stored on the phone, which also enhances security, the release said.

In conjunction with the announcement, BMO Harris Bank issued a report showing the positive effects of digital personal finance tools and services on the financial standing of Americans.

Among findings of the report conducted by Pollara:

  • 87 percent said that they know exactly what is going on with their finances at all times;
  • 82 percent said they are managing their finances more effectively as a result of using digital personal finance tools;
  • 78 percent said they make better purchase decisions when on the go, and 77 percent said they have better control over their spending; and
  • 75 percent said they pay bills on time more often and 70 percent said they overdraw their account less often.
