Blockchain mobile wallet app error leads to users sharing a single wallet

Bitcoin mobile wallet app Blockchain is currently dealing with an error that led to several Android users sharing a single wallet, leading to a loss of funds, according to a report by The Guardian. This was the result of an error in Blockchain's method of generating public addresses and private keys.

Blockchain pulled a random number from the Android operating system and then combined it with a random number from Random.org. However, some Android phones did not generate a number properly and recently Random.org started to require an encrypted connection. Since Blockchain connected via an unencrypted connection, it received an error code from the site which was then put in as the random number.

This in turn led to a situation where some users had the same address, leading to some users losing funds. Blockchain said in an interview with The Guardian that the issue was small and only a few users were affected. Blockchain also asked any users who were affected by this issue to contact the company helpdesk.
