Bell ID enters TSM market with new solution

Bell ID, a provider of smartcard and token management technology, announced a new white label Trusted Service Manager (TSM) service, the Bell ID Mobile Token Manager. According to the company, its new platform provides over-the-air (OTA) lifecycle management of applications, cryptographic keys and secure elements (SE) on near field communication (NFC) mobile devices.

In short, the TSM solution connects mobile network operators and service providers with mobile devices in real-time, called OTA provisioning, through the device's secure element.

The company said that as the mobile payments industry moves from small pilots to large-scale deployments, its solution meets "the functional and commercial complexities of this ecosystem."

“The solution meets a direct need in the marketplace as it is simple to use, secure, scalable and can be configured to connect with existing systems," said Bell ID CEO David Orme.

Orme said Bell ID has already received positive reaction to the product from a range of stakeholders, including handset manufacturers and MNOs wishing to offer mobile services to end-users through the management of applications on secure elements. He also said vendors and third parties looking to become TSMs have also expressed interest.

The company said its solution fully aligns with industry standards and can support global implementations and is form factor neutral, meaning it supports the lifecycle of applications on any type of SE, including embedded SEs, UICCs and microSD cards.

"Regardless of the deployment model adopted and the business relationships created, this is an emerging ecosystem and there are still a lot of unknown factors," Orme said. "The ability to securely update, personalise and manage applications OTA and be flexible to future requirements will be key to success."
