Beer me: Barclaycard tests contactless-enabled, self-pouring ale pump

Barclaycard is testing what it calls the first-of-its-kind self-pouring beer pump that allows drinkers to pour their own pint of ale and pay in just 60 seconds with a touch of their contactless card or device, according to a press release.

Barclaycard tested the prototype earlier this week at Henry’s Café and Bar in London. The card issuer said the solution, Pay at Pump, has been designed to help pubs and bars speed up service in response to a quarter of Brits saying that queuing for drinks is the worst part of a night out, according to the announcement.

Pay at Pump will dispense beer once the user selects their choice and pays by touching their card or device at the pump's base.

"Barclaycard has a rich history of innovation and if the trial is successful, Pay at Pump could be rolled out not only in bars and pubs but also at events and concerts to help speed up service, potentially even taking center stage at the food and drink stalls at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park in 2017," said Tami Hargreaves, commercial director of digital consumer payments at Barclaycard.
