Barclays Bank of Kenya rolls out mobile cash access service

Barclays Bank of Kenya has launched CashSend, a cardless money transfer service that links mobile phones to Barclays ATMs, Humanipo.com reports.

The service will allow Barclays Bank of Kenya account-holders to use a Barclays ATM to transfer money to mobile phone subscribers. The recipient will be able to withdraw the money from any Barclays ATM in Kenya, but will not need a debit card or a Barclays account.

"The service is part of a three-year strategy by the bank to diversify its service delivery channels through technology-based solutions," Barclays Bank of Kenya managing director Jeremy Awori said, according to Humanipo.com.

Barclays customers will need to purchase a money voucher at a Barclays ATM, specifying the amount they want to send and the beneficiary's mobile number.

A system-generated PIN will then be created for the transaction and a notification text message sent to the beneficiary's mobile phone number.

The originating customer has to contact the beneficiary and provide the PIN needed to redeem the money voucher.

The recipient will need to access the cardless services menu at any Barclays ATM and use the details sent on the notification text and PIN received to withdraw the funds.
