Bango provides billing services for Opera Mobile Store

The market for mobile payments is already beginning to fragment, leading to some interesting specialization. One such case is Bango Inc. The mobile payments and analytics company announced today that it will provide mobile payments for the Opera Mobile Store.

Opera is a family of Web browsers developed by Opera Software that includes the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers for mobile devices and smartphones. According to Bango, 100 million consumers currently access the Web through the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers.

Bango said that its agreements with Opera will give users of the Opera Mobile Store the ability to pay for apps, or content within apps, to their cellphone bills or through a credit card using Bango's browser-based payments on their devices.

"Opera's breakthrough is the delivery of a browser-based app store," said Ray Anderson, Bango's CEO, in the announcement. "This means that localization, adaptation to different devices, support for multiple payment methods and currencies, can all be provisioned in real-time without the need to modify software on the device."

For Opera, enabling billing through Bango means developers can monetize their apps and content more easily, which means developers will be more likely to create apps for the Opera market. More content and apps will then attract more users.

"Our app store is hugely popular across the world, with millions of customers accessing content every day" said Mahi de Silva, EVP, Consumer Mobile, Opera Software. "Delivering the best payment experience to our customers is essential, and Bango provides the most sophisticated mobile payment technology available."

Along with billing and payment services, Bango said its platform offers real-time analytics, full reporting and settlement services and customer support.
