Australian company strikes deal with Brisbane Airport merchants to accept cryptocurrencies

As some retailers and payments processors begin to shift away from bitcoin acceptance because of continuing volatility and higher transaction fees, a company in Australia is not shying away from those issues and has struck a deal with Brisbane Airport retailers to accept cryptocurrencies as payment.

TravelbyBit is the name of the company that has signed at least 10 Brisbane Airport retailers to accept digital currencies, according to a report from itnews.

"Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals," Roel Hellemons, the general manager for strategic planning and development for the Brisbane Airport Corporation, told itnews.

TravelbyBit is a Brisbane-based company that already had some 26 merchants accepting cryptocurrency payments in the city, which is the capital of Queensland.
