Aussie taxi app startup Ingogo hails $1M in additional funding

Ingogo, an Australian startup that has developed a mobile payment app for taxis, has secured another $1 million in funding, bringing its overall total to $3.7 million.

According to the Australian site StartupSmart.com, Ingogo has signed up 15 percent of the country's cab drivers as it works to disrupt the cabbie market that is dominated by Cabcharge.

"We're trying to challenge the taxi industry on all fronts," Ingogo founder Hamesh Petrie told the site. "No one's ever done that before. ... People think we're just a passenger-booking app, but we're more than that. We're a full mobile payment system for cabs. We've spent a lot of time in the back-end to make sure we can settle with drivers every day."

The company will use the funding to expand into Melbourne and other cities by the end of the year.
