Apple Watch to hit Best Buy shelves in time for holiday retail season

Best Buy tapped to sell Apple Watch starting Aug. 7.

Consumers will soon have a second place to check out and buy the Apple Watch now that mega retailer Best Buy is signed on to sell the wearable device starting August 7.

The biggest U.S. consumer electronics player is the first retail outlet tapped by Apple to sell its much-hyped Watch device, which has been sold only at Apple retail locations, according to a Reuters report Monday. The Watch will be on shelves at more than 300 Best Buy locations in time for the holiday retail season as well as available on Bestbuy.com.

"Customers love Apple Watch, and we are thrilled to begin offering it at Best Buy," an Apple spokesperson told Reuters in an email.

Best Buy, much like when AT&T was chosen as the lone iPhone smartphone carrier initially, is pretty excited about the agreement.

"The Apple Watch is an important addition to an emerging product category, and we know our customers want it," wrote Jason Bonfig, Best Buy senior category officer, on the corporate website. “We are excited to bring the Apple Watch to more consumers, especially with the holidays coming up.”

The blog states customers will be able to see, try and buy 16 Apple Watch models — including Sport and Watch models in both 38mm and 42mm sizes — and nearly 50 accessories, including watch bands, screen shields, stands, chargers and more.
