Apple Store experience reportedly about to change with VeriFone partnership

Apple reportedly is set to launch a revamped point-of-sale system in its storefronts that will use a VeriFone sleeve capable of accepting EMV transactions and contactless payments, a noteworthy addition considering the absence of an NFC-enabled iPhone.

9to5Mac initially reported the news while Forbes flushed out some of the details regarding the VeriFone partnership.

Apple's EasyPay mobile POS system will now use the iPhone 5s encased in a VeriFone sleeve, according to the Forbes article.

"The new device is about one ounce heavier and slightly thicker than the previous device marketed by Infinite Peripherals Inc., but it incorporates all the features that Apple stores will need to be secure and efficient over the next few years," the Forbes report said.

The sleeve also features a keypad on the back of the case so that consumers can enter their PIN to confirm purchases.
