Apple Pay debuts in Spain with Banco Santander

Banco Santander introduced Apple Pay to its customers in Spain this week, according to a press release.

"Apple Pay shows we are committed to collaborate and to bring innovation and new technology to our customers to make their payments easier, faster and more secure," said Rami Aboukhair, country head of Santander Spain. "We are convinced our customers will love it."

Three-quarters of Spanish merchants support contactless payments in their store; Santander customers with Apple Pay on their NFC-enabled iPhone or Apple Watch can use the payment service at any of these locations after uploading their Banco Santander MasterCard debit or credit card to the app, the release said.

Apple earlier this year targeted Spain for an Apple Pay launch by the end of 2016.
