Android weakness makes Bitcoin digital wallets vulnerable to theft

Digital wallets on the Android operating system are vulnerable to theft, according to Bitcoin developers.

The warning, which was shared in a Sunday blog post, said the vulnerability occurs in an Android component that generates secure random numbers. The problem affects every Bitcoin digital wallet generated by an Android app.

The developers said existing wallets can be secured by creating a new address with a repaired digital random numbers generator, then sending the wallet's balance back to itself.

The developers "strongly recommended" that Android wallet users upgrade to the latest version available in the Play Store as soon as one becomes available, which they said should happen soon.
