Android Pay officially arrives

Expect in-app payments support from Android Pay to roll out by the end of the year.

Google announced Thursday that it had begun to roll out Android Pay to its users as part of an update to the company's mobile operating system, according to a company blog post.

"We'll be rolling out gradually over the next few days, and this is just the beginning," Pali Bhat, director of product management for Android Pay, wrote in the post. "We will continue to add even more features, banks and store locations in the coming months, making it even easier to pay with your Android phone."

Bhat also wrote that in-app payments support is expected to roll out by the end of the year. Google also mentioned that later this year the company will incorporate the SmartTap technology it acquired earlier this year from Softcard. That technology also enables users to transmit their loyalty points and special offers in real time when they pay with Android Pay.
