American Express launches bill splitting with PayPal, Venmo

American Express entered an agreement to help its cardholders split the cost of purchases with PayPal and Venmo users, according to a a company release. Venmo is the social payments business subsidiary of PayPal. 

American Express cardholders can select the purchase in the American Express mobile app, whether it be a restaurant tab, a concert ticket, group vacation, utility bill or other charge and send customized requests to every person they are splitting the bill with. 

The agreement also will allow American Express cardholders to pay with loyalty points at merchants that accept PayPal. 

American Express and PayPal plan to roll out additional features and services to card members in 2020.
