Amazon shutters Register mPOS service

The company on Friday stopped selling the $10 device that hit the market last year with an attractive 1.75 percent transaction rate.

A little more than a year after it first debuted, Amazon announced it will discontinue its Amazon Register mobile point-of-sale service.

The company on Friday stopped selling the $10 device that hit the market with an attractive 1.75 percent transaction rate for merchants who signed up for the service in the first two months.

"Effective Feb. 1, 2016, we will discontinue Amazon Register. We are constantly testing and launching new services to innovate on behalf of our customers. At this time, we have decided to discontinue the Amazon Register service," the company said in a statement.

Geekwire reported that Amazon will also shutter its daily deals service, Local, later this year.
