Omnichannel giant Amazon is opening the doors today to its first cashierless grocery store, called Amazon Go Grocery, in Seattle.

The store is an expansion of the retailers Amazon Go store format but on a grander scale given 5,000 products in stock, from fruit to alcohol, and with a footprint of 10,400 square feet, according to a CNBC report.

It's the latest battle move in the grocery wars taking place between Amazon and legacy grocers including Walmart and Kroger. However, the Go Grocery store is not competing with Amazon's Whole Foods grocery strategy, according to the report.

The store, at 610 E. Pike Street, has been in development for five years. Shoppers scan a QR code from the Amazon mobile app, add items to basket while shopping and just leave when they're done.

"You're seeing a lot of big strides in [this] store," Cameron Janes, vice president of Amazon's physical retail division, told CNBC.
