Ailsa Bay partners with arc-net for whiskey blockchain app
William Grant and Sons' Ailsa Bay has partnered with blockchain company startup arc-net to launch a blockchain app for its whiskey. The app will compile information such as cask types, filling dates and bottling dates recorded on arc-net's Distilled ID blockchain distillery management platform, according to a report by Beverage Daily.
The bottles are all individually marked by a QR code. Customers can scan the QR code on the bottle to get a visual history of the whiskey, such as details on its malting, mashing, fermentation and distillation, all on the app.
"Arc-net is delighted to be supporting Wiliam Grant's 'Free Spirit' initiative," Drew Lyall, general manager, arc-net, said in the report. "The scientific approach, and the use of data, in the production of Ailsa Bay single malt is truly innovative and aligns perfectly with the ethos of arc-net."
