Advent International buys 51% of Argentinian payments firm for $1.42B

Private equity firm Advent International is buying a 51 percent stake in Argentinian payments firm Prisma Medios de Pago in a deal valued at $1.42 billion.

The stake in Prisma had been owned by a consortium of 14 Argentinian banks and Visa International and the company’s existing shareholders will retain 49 percent control of the company, according to a press release.

Prisma is the largest merchant firm in Argentina, offering LaPOS point-of-sale rental, the Decidir e-commerce gateway, transaction processing and other services. The company said it is also the leading payments processor and second largest operator of ATMs. It also offers peer-to-peer, e-wallet, mobile point-of-sale and QR code transactions
