Accenture launches analytics-based mobile wallet platform

Global consulting and technology services firm Accenture has launched an upgraded mobile wallet platform for digital payments incorporating analytics, big data capabilities, recommendations tools and security features. The platform is aimed at banks, mobile operators and merchants, or a partnership of these players that wishes to issue mobile wallets.

The Accenture Mobile Wallet platform allows end-users to manage and operate credit, debit, transport, loyalty and gift cards and make transactions via Near Field Communications technology or QR codes. The wallet can also be used for sending money, Accenture said.

According to Accenture, upgrades to its mobile wallet platform include a front-end design overhaul, API capability and availability for use with all major mobile operating systems.

Wallet operators can use the Accenture platform's Recommendation Engine to gather customer data and make personalized recommendations in real time, the company said, and the platform can be used via the cloud or on-premises.

"This platform will help our clients to understand which offers to extend to which consumers, and when," Jin Lee, Accenture Mobility's global managing director, said in a statement.

Platform features include Bluetooth Low-Energy beacon and geo-fence integration as well as a Trusted Service Manager for storing card data in a mobile device's secure element and for sending and personalizing smart card data.

The wallet's push payment feature allows mobile shoppers to check out by pushing money to merchants without sharing their account data. This feature lowers the risk of chargebacks and lack of funds for merchants, the company said.

"For many, digital commerce still has barriers to adoption, and a robust, modular platform like the Accenture Mobile Wallet is just what an enhanced payments ecosystem needs to take off," Robert Hasson, Accenture Mobility's managing director of digital commerce, said in a statement.
