7-Eleven pilots Siri voice commands for contactless fuel

7-Eleven Inc. has launched a pilot to test contactless fuel purchases at its gas stations using voice commands at select stores in North and South Orlando, Florida, North Texas and Woodbridge, Virginia, according to a press release.

The convenience store chain is testing whether customers can use Siri shortcuts on their Apple iPhone or mobile payment options using the 7Reward loyalty app through the 7-Eleven mobile app.

Customers using the app will get 11 cents a gallon discounts on their first seven fill-ups at the pump and then 3 cents a gallon discounts.

"Adding fuel savings takes the 7Rewards loyalty program to the next level," Tarang Sethia, chief digital officer at 7-Eleven, said in a company release. "Fuel loyalty offers value with an elevated experience that allows customers to pump, pay and be on their way without taking out their wallet."

To get the fuel loyalty discounts, customers need to be at a participating store location and have a verified phone number in their loyalty app.

For touchless fuel payment, customers need to upgrade to the latest loyalty version of the loyalty app and set up a credit or debit card under account settings. The app also accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Customers must select their fuel pump number and select the preferred fuel amount. For Siri voice commands, customers need to set up a Siri shortcut in the 7-Eleven mobile app.
