Zapper announced the launch of its mobile payments app and marketing service at local establishments this month in Richmond, Virginia.

"Richmond was the perfect place to be one of our first Zapper cities, because of its young, tech vibe and thriving hyperconnected food scene," said Jim Hite, Zapper Vice President, said in a statement. "With Zapper, we wanted to give diners the ability to pay out in seconds, and restaurants the opportunity to know their diners better to create more effective targeted promotions. We're really excited at the prospect of partnering with the restaurant community here and helping these establishments grow their business."  

Zapper allows diners to scan a QR code on their bill through the app, and pay, split the bill, and leave a tip, without having to wait on the server, the announcement said. Zapper also offers the ability to locate nearby restaurants utilizing the service and receive promotions and discounts from restaurants via Zapper inbox.

Zapper is designed to allow restaurants to:

• Increase table turnover and improve waitstaff efficiencies
• Learn diner preferences, allowing for more targeted promotions
• Create a stronger customer following through Zapper's voucher campaigns
