Worldpay catapults into Australia
Worldpay, a global payments company, is entering the Australian market after gaining a license to process payments in the country. Currently several companies including ASOS, Expedia and Digital World International have already teamed up with Worldpay to process payments in Australia, according to a press release.
Australian shoppers spent $42 billion in e-commerce in 2015, and 21 percent of those shoppers prefer to use electronic wallets. Worldpay plans to help merchants tap into this growth in e-commerce.
"Worldpay offers us a fast reliable payment experience at checkout," Alison Lygo, senior treasury manager at ASOS, said in the release. "In Worldpay, Cathay Pacific has a trusted partner in Australia to provide consultancy and domestic processing in this strategically important region."
"We are delighted to extend our services into Australia, which is a tremendously exciting market with lots of growth opportunity. We have quickly found merchants trading in Australia are hungry for a payment solution that can help them drive up conversion rates and drive down the costs of running an online business across multiple markets," Shane Happach, managing director of global e-commerce at Worldpay, said in the release. "These attributes, together with the data insight and range of alternative payment methods we can offer merchants trading in Australia, gives us a clear edge in the market which we hope to capitalize on fully in the years to come."
